Exit Interview

Which assignments did you enjoy and why?

I think the shorter question would be " Which DIDN'T you enjoy." I enjoyed everything that we did with Adobe, along with the game journal and Minecraft projects, but those 2 took some time to enjoy. I also enjoyed the coding we learned through CodeAcademy. I enjoyed Adobe because It caused me to learn a lot about things I want to learn how to do. It's the same reason I enjoyed CodeAcademy. I enjoyed Minecraft because it's Minecraft. I enjoyed The journalism once I figured out how to play the game and be able to actually do what I was told to do.

Which assignments did you struggle with and why?

I struggled with the game journalism at first because I had no idea how to play the game. Once i figured it out, tough I started having fun. Algodoo was a challenge. Some of the challenges seemed nearly impossible and I have no idea how you could get 100% on some of them. Minecraft was a bit challenging because we weren't given much time to do it.

What did you learn?

I learned some of the basics to coding, I learned how to use Adobe Animate and other more advanced tools in the other Adobe apps. I also learned how to change the colour of the background in Blogger.

What should you have done to do better?

I think I did pretty good, but I do think keeping more of an open mind to some of the things we did would have helped. I also should have made sure the Minecraft video I recorded worked before I left Class today. Now I can't even finish our last project because of it.

If you were to take IT in the future, what would you like to explore?

I would obviously want to learn how to code more since I want to be able to make my own video games. I also like video editing so learning some strategies with that would be cool.  The things we do in adobe are pretty cool so I think you should keep doing that, but have more difficult things to do the higher grade the student is in.

Thank You for teaching us this year. I think I learned some important skills in your class this year. Have a great summer Mr. Bilesky!

Minecraft - Anatomy Park

I also tried recording it, but for some reason, all I got was the audio. It recorded it as an AVI file instead of an MP4 file.

Game Journalism Day 5

HOW TO PLAY THE GAME:
Use WASD to walk, the mouse to move the camera, Shift to run, Ctrl to crouch, the numbers to equip items, F to open inventory, SPACE to open a different type of inventory, and left-click on Mouse to interact with objects. Your goal is to make it to the lighthouse before seven days pass. You must be able to balance between eating, drinking, sleeping, and staying warm. This game has a very high difficulty curve and you'll die a lot the first times you play it. You'll have to learn from your mistakes to beat this game.
After 1 Hour of Starting Over:
I started off collecting everything I could in the cabin. This is what I got:

I then ran to the right where I found "Max's Last Stand." There was a dead body right below a tree. I then ran straight/left to the destroyed cabin to see if there was a Hatchet. There wasn't. Then I ran out of the back of the cabin where I ran into the tracks. Then I crossed the tracks where I entered another cabin for a bit, since it had a lot, like clothing and newspaper stacks.

Once I left the cabin, I went back to the tracks where I then followed them to the right. Shortly after, I ran into a crashed train. I went in one of the storage compartments and found a dead body inside it. Once I left it, I got attacked by a wolf. Since I didn't want this to happen, I just quit the game, which caused the whole computer to freeze, so I had to shut it off.

When I got back on the game, I had to grab everything from the third cabin again. When I left, I went back to the train and ran from the wolf as fast as I could, going up a hill quite a bit to avoid it, but apparently if a wolf catches eye of you, there's no way to escape it. While trying to escape it, I found a little rock person, and a dead end. The wolf attacked me, but I was able to make it out just fine with one scat that I healed almost immediately. The wolf died shortly after.
I then continued to continue down the tracks where I discovered another train, but this one had a door. It then started getting dark, so I slept. By the time I woke up, it was pitch black, so I just continued down the tracks with a lit flare in my hand. This had been the farthest I had ever gotten in this game and I was only going to get further. I then found a bridge and continued on it.

Right after the bridge, I found a trailer, so i got in so I could sleep without worry of dieing. When the sun rose back up, I left to find a broken car and another trailer there as well. On the other side of the tracks, there was a building. When I went inside of it, I learned it was a dam. The building was so big and had multiple rooms and floors. I got a bunch of goodies from exploring it. I then left the building and ended playing. My hour was up.

Game Journalism Day 4

Bear Death:
Drown Death:
Fire Death:
Hypothermia Death:
Wolf Death:
Infection Death:
Hunger/Thirst Death:
Dysentery Death:
Falling Death:

Game Journalism Day 3

Question 1: At the beginning of the game, it shows you how long you have to complete the challenge. In the top- right corner of the screen. You have about 7 days to bat the game.

Tip: Stay at the cabin for as little time as possible. The longer you stay there, the less food you will have by the time you leave, and food is scarce. You'll also have less time to make it to the lighthouse, since you only have 7 days to get there.

Task/question 2: Today, we were supposed to make a Fishing Tackle. You make one by first making a hook and a line. You make the hook out of scrapped metal and the line out of cured gut. You can turn certain things you get in the cabin into scraped metal, but when it comes to the gut, it's not that easy. Guts are found when you kill an animal, but what you get from it is a different kind of gut. For it to turn into a cured gut, you have to wait 5 DAYS for the other gut to age into it. I have no idea how you can make this any other way. Sometimes, though you can find a fishing tackle just lying around, which makes tings a lot easier.

Algadoo Personal Challenge:

Game Journalism Day 2.5

There are a lot of challenges in this game. The biggest one is being able to balance out your heat, thirst, hunger, and sleep bars. They fall fast, but if you're skilled enough, you may be able to keep all of them full for quite some time. I can't.

One of the things you should always do is make water. It's easy and will keep your thirst bar full for a LONG time. To make water, start a fire and boil the snow, then boil that water you just made. It's too unsafe to drink after only 1 boil.
One thing I now do every time I restart the game is head to this broken cabin. Sometimes, you'll find a hatchet, which really helps for getting wood. It doesn't always happen though, but it's close enough to the starting cabin that it's worth the look. I also found a bunch of run-down trains, but I forgot to take screenshots of them. Sorry.
Every once in a while, you might run into a dead, frozen corpse. If you loot them, they could have anything from clothing, food, or most importantly NOTHING!!! They're usually found near or around human-made structures, but can sometimes be found in the middle of nowhere.
Today, I learned that by heading to the area that I went to yesterday, I'm actually heading the wrong way, so I decided to head in the opposite direction.
I found two run-down trains before I died of hypothermia. I did get a rifle from one of the trains, but  I got attacked by a wolf quickly afterwards after I missed my shot.  I tried 3 times today not today, but failed all 3 times. One time I gave up because a blizzard appeared, meaning I couldn't even leave my cabin without freezing to death too quickly. I also learned that if you throw a stone at a rabbit and hit it, you can kill it and eat it. This is important, because it means you don't need a gun to survive in this game.

To get charcoal, go to a dead fire, left click on it, and click "Take Charcoal" on the bottom right corner of the screen. You use charcoal to make a map on the ground to make a map. The picture up above is what I was able to make using the charcoal.

Here are some survival tips: 1, find food as fast as you can. It's the hardest thing to keep full. 2, collect rocks to throw at rabbits. 3, stay at your cabin until the beginning of day 2, then run to behind the cabin until you hit a wall, then go left until you find the train tracks. Loot everything there and head left, following the tracks. You'll be heading towards the lighthouse. 4, take EVERYTHING from the cabin. You're going to need all of it. And 5, if you find multiple pieces of clothing, wear the one that will keep you the warmest.

Game Journalism Day 2

At the start of day 2, I tried to prepare myself much more than last time. This time, I heated up a bunch of water, so I wouldn't die of thirst. I also tried to explore more, instead of staying near the cabin you start off at. What I found was pretty cool. I started off by going back to the same run down cabin where I got the hatchet last time, but there was none this time. I ran a bit more and found some frozen bodies. I didn't find much on them, except a new shirt and hood. I then found a hunting stand with some dog food in it.
This is also where I learned how to make my own fire. By holding down SPACE, a bunch of options will pop up. Choose the campfire one, and you'll make a campfire. This is also where you find your portable bed. Lucky for me, I got pretty lucky with lighting campfires today, only failing about 2 times. I also found a magnifying glass at the beginning of the game, which can be used to light fire, but I haven't been able to use it yet. When it shows I could use it, the Light Fire button doesn't show up. Maybe there wasn't enough sun to use it. I also learned that you can refuel fire, so it lasts longer and so you don't have to keep using matches to light it up.
I then left to explore more and eventually found a run down log train, fallen apart and everything. I followed the tracks, which led me to a new area! There wasn't much for me to take here.
I actually Had to sleep for a bit after discovering this. When I woke up, I found wolves near by and had to run away from them. Here's some tips: When done using a fire, take the charcoal from it. I don't know what it does yet, but I might need it. Also make sure to pick back up your bed once done using it.  After following the tracks some more, I found a large frozen lake with another crashed train on it. I found multiple items at this crash, like clothing, bandages, and scrap metal. I then got kicked off the game, along with everyone else in the class to write this. I'm excited to play more of this tomorrow and see what else I'm able to discover!
Today, my biggest struggles were staying warm and eating enough. Since you're outside all the time, you get cold FAST, so you have to constantly light fires, which barely warm you up if you're not inside. For food, I just don't have much. I have a rifle, but have yet to use it, since i have terrible aim and a limited amount of bullets. It also gets dark constantly in this game and when it does, it's nearly impossible to see anything. I hope i can find out how to solve these problems tomorrow.
